Practice Gratitude

World Gratitude Day was first celebrated in 1965. It is recognized each year as a day to show appreciation for all things, big and small. Living a grateful life is like any other habit. It takes time to cultivate positive actions and attitudes into our daily lives. But, with commitment, you wake up one morning and realize that you see all the good around you. It’s all in how you choose to look at things.

Here are some ideas on how you can practice gratitude.

Appreciate Your Loved Ones:

Family is such a blessing. NEVER take your loved ones for granted. Keep in touch as best you can and be sure to tell them you love them as often as possible. Things happen in life that can drastically change our current circumstances. Today, find a moment to pause and give thanks to your family and friends for all the good they bring into your life. Don't forget to tell them how wonderful it feels to be connected and loved. Tell your kids how proud you are of them. Give your pet an extra treat and say thank you for the lessons of unconditional love that only an animal can give.

Practice Internal Gratitude-Give Yourself a Little Love:

Why is it so difficult for us to be grateful for our perfectly imperfect life? Why do we look in the mirror and see the crow’s-feet instead of the sparkle in our eyes? The key to a grateful life is giving thanks for the beauty within the imperfection. Let yourself look at your life with understanding and loving eyes. Stop beating yourself up, and give thanks for each breath, each heartbeat. Look at your reflection in the mirror with kindness, love and compassion. Remember that you do not have to be perfect? No one is perfect. Give thanks today for your life, even the broken bits. You are unique. You are beautiful. You are enough.

Give Your Life a Gratitude Makeover:

Make gratitude a daily practice in your life. Buy a gratitude journal. Begin and end each day with a deep cleansing breath and a prayer of thanks for life itself. The world is challenging. We can do our part in the world, we can change our thoughts, and we can send out a feeling of joy and gratitude. By giving thanks each day, we cast a light into the darkness, reminding ourselves and each other that goodness is never far away. Today, I am thankful for the opportunity to share this journey with you. To recognize the perfection in the imperfection, and give thanks for another never before lived day that is full of infinite possibilities.
